UNITED IN LOVE

The mission of the Episcopal Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ. In step with that mission, we follow Jesus. We seek loving and liberating relationships with God, each other and the earth.

As Episcopalians, we follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. His life, death and resurrection saved the world. Episcopalians believe that God loves you – no exceptions. We embrace legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being.

what we believe on a deeper level

Book of common prayer

The Book of Common Prayer is a treasure chest full of devotional and teaching resources. It is for individuals and congregations, but it is also the primary symbol of our unity. We, who are many and diverse, come together in Christ through our worship, our common prayer.

The bible

The Bible is our foundation, understood through tradition and reason. It is a book that contains all the things necessary for salvation. Our worship incorporates Scripture from beginning to end. Approximately 70% of the Book of Common Prayer comes from the Bible.

Baptismal Covenant

This is a mini catechism used at baptisms and on Easter and other special occasions. The baptismal covenant opens with a question-and-answer version of the statement of faith. This is the Apostles’ Creed and adds five questions about how we, as Christians, should live out our faith.

The Catechism

We offer this in a question-and-answer format. The catechism found in the back of the Book of Common Prayer (pp. 845-862) helps teach the foundational truths of the Christian faith.

The Creeds

The Creeds are two foundational statements of faith. These are the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. Episcopalians use the Apostles’ Creed at baptism. We use the Nicene Creed during communion. We join Christians throughout time in affirming our faith in God, who created, redeemed and sanctifies us!

The Sacraments

Besides baptism and the Eucharist (Holy Communion), the church recognizes other spiritual markers. These can be found in the Book of Common Prayer.
